Trash mob pulling in Molten Core!

Molten Giants/Destroyers

The first creatures in Molten Core, you’ll face two Molten Giants, these should be easy to take down as long as you keep them separated and concentrate your damage on one of them at a time.

Assign one warrior on each of the Molten Giants - these creatures has a short proximity area of effect damage so all melee classes will be under mild damage during this fight, although should be easy to out-heal the damage caused by it. Have the warriors pull them apart and focus all DPS on one of the two. Kill it, and move onto the other. If you have one Giant and one Destroyer, kill the Giant first as it’s the weakest.

Fire Lords

This is the first hard creature you’ll meet in MC, any guild down there for the first time is bound to wipe unless you know what to do.

The hard things about these creatures is that they spawn miniature versions of themselves that multiply, so if one spawns and it isn’t killed fast enough he’ll split into one more and you’ll have two on your hands, if those aren’t killed they’ll be split into 4 and so on.

Easiest way to bring the fire lord down is to have the mages use blizzard, that will damage all the small ones plus that Fire Lord; to not have an invasion on your hands set your rogues / hunters on any spawns to kill them as fast as possible. If none are spawned of course the rogues and hunters will be on the Fire Lord.

In addition to this the Fire Lord has a magic de-buff called Soul burn that inflicts 4000 Fire damage to an enemy over 16 seconds, preventing it from casting spells and reducing the Physical damage it deals by -50%. This has to be dispelled as fast as possible from anyone that gets affected by it.

Lava Annihilator

One of the most annoying mobs in Molten Core. These elementals may be tauntable by warriors but for some reason no one can maintain aggro on this mob, so it frenetically runs around hitting everyone in the raid. There is nothing to do about this other than chasing it until it dies.

Flame Imps
Flameimps.jpg

On the way to Lucifron and Magmadar there are a few packs of 10 Flame Imps, to defeat these send in a warrior first, after that the mages can just AoE the Imps, they die pretty fast but be careful these little buggers do a small AoE flame attack and when they are bunched up in one clump they will bring down any raid pretty fast if they aren't handled properly, make sure to keep your mages alive.

Lava Surger

These Elementals are fairly easy, they have a charge that knocks backs a target and anyone in near vicinity. They are also banishable by the warlocks so if you should have problems with these make a warlock banish them to regroup. The charge affects is a random secondary target, so there is no way of predicting which one of your raid members it will hit, and you’ll have to be careful not to stand near ledges just in case you should happen to be knock backed into the lava.

Ancient Core Hound

These are very nasty critters, once you see one of these incoming you should send your main tank in and let him turn him around facing away from the raid. The reason for this is because they have a fire breath that is cone based in front of him, these guys also have a wide variety of curses in a 360-degree 40-yard radius so your raid is bound to be affected by them.

Ancient Despair: Confuses nearby enemies, causing them to stop attacking their targets and wander around for 5 seconds.

Ancient Dread: Reduces an enemy's casting speed by -50% and its attack speed by -50% for 900 seconds.

Ancient Hysteria: Reduces nearby enemies' Spirit by -50% and their Intellect by -50% for 900 seconds.

Ground Stomp: Stomps the ground, stunning nearby enemies for 5 seconds. Some of these are dispellable, but the Ancient Despair can’t be removed.

The Core Hound Packs

These are very nasty mobs, first of all if not killed in the proper way they will start to resurrect each other, also they have a DoT that stacks up very high so the healers need to be awake. Assign one tank on each core hound; if you do not have 5 tanks use a druid in bear-form. Every tank / druid should be very clear on which target he has so there is no confusion, once the pull is made keep them bunched up in a small area and let the mages and warlocks start using blizzard / rain of fire.

The whole pack has to be killed at the same time or very close to at the same time or else as mentioned they will start to resurrect each other, and your raid will shortly be drained for mana. Once you have the hang of this fight you’ll take the rest of the core hound packs without any big problems.

Lava Packs
3pack.jpg4pack.jpg

This is one of the hardest trash mob pull you’ll ever have to do. There are two types of lava packs; the first one consists of 4 mobs, two Lava Elementals, one Flame Guard and a Fire Walker.

After the pull is made start with banishing the two Lava Elementals, that will ease up the fight enormously. After that your raid should be concentrating on the Fire Walker because they have Fire Blossom: Causes flames to blossom from the caster, immobilizing it and periodically inflicting 2775 - 3225 Fire damage to an enemy for 6 seconds. These aren’t in any way dispellable and very dangerous for the raid especially when it hits the main tank.

Once the Fire Walker is dead you’ll want to kill the Flame Guard, he has an ability called Melt Armour: Reduces the armour of nearby enemies by -1000 for 60 seconds. He shouldn’t be all too hard to bring down.

Now you have two elementals left on your hands, kill them one at a time because they have one nasty ability called Pyroblast Barrage: Inflicts 1500 Fire damage to enemies in a cone in front of the caster, stunning them for 6 seconds, also not dispellable - the casting classes should be stood behind these not to be affected by them.

The second lava pack consists of one Fire Guard, one Fire Walker and one Lava Reaver, this is an easier version of the first type of lava pack and it’s executed the same way.

Lava Reaver There isn’t much to say about this elemental, he hits really hard and has a nasty cleave attack, so don’t stand near him, only the melee classes should be hit by the cleave. The fight against this type of elemental is up to the healers and how effective they are.

This concludes our guide on Molten Core trash mob pulling.
